Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Budge Budge police raided a prostitution racket operating for an extended period near Rabindra Kanan Children’s Park in Nichintopur, South 24 Parganas. The police intervention followed a disturbance involving a local housewife, who was reportedly harassed by a customer, sparking a public altercation around 7:30 PM. As the situation escalated, local residents alerted the police, reporting that the area had been a hotspot for illicit activities.
According to the police, the operation involved the participation of numerous outsiders who visited the area regularly. The key operator, identified as Makhshi Rani Rinki Bibi, had rented a house where four brokers were facilitating the trade. Local residents indicated that the racket had been ongoing for a long time, although no formal complaints had been filed with the Budge Budge police station. Police noted that there had been no written or verbal complaints regarding the prostitution activities at the station prior to the raid.
The authorities arrested 17 individuals, including Rinki Bibi, five women, and 12 men. The arrested individuals were charged under the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act. After processing, they were taken to Budge Budge police station and later transferred to Alipore Court. As of now, the investigation is ongoing, and the police have not revealed further details about the potential involvement of other individuals or networks linked to the illegal activity.
